Overview

Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian manages the Touro University Nevada Jay Sexter Library’s Integrated Library System (ILS) and maintains additional tools and platforms for user discovery and delivery of Library electronic resources. 

 

The Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian maintains the Library’s discovery tools including authentication software (OpenAthens), the discovery layer, and link-out applications, as well as maintaining e-resource access and management services.  The Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian activates, troubleshoots, and maintains access to the library’s electronic resources including databases, aggregate electronic resources, and the Library’s website.

 

The Electronic Services and Systems Librarian also provides library instruction and support to students, faculty, and staff in the College of Health and Human Services (Nursing, OT, PT, PA, Education) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine (Osteopathic Medicine, MHS).

Responsibilities

The Electronic Resources and Systems Librarian is responsible for managing the ILS and maintaining access to all library electronic resources.  Reporting to the Library Director, this is a faculty position with a rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Manages the Integrated Library System (ILS).

1.1. Leads the design, implementation and maintenance of new tools and services for user discovery and delivery of Library electronic resources.

1.2. Troubleshoots problems with the ILS and reports problems to the vendor to ensure their resolution.

1.3. Manages incoming data feeds including acquisitions and other data, complex bibliographic records, and holdings, item and patron data.

1.4. Manages the Library’s discovery tools including authentication software (OpenAthens), the discovery layer, and link-out applications.

1.5. Tests new functionality and system upgrades.

1.6. Maintains accuracy and currency of serial holdings.

 

2. Maintains consistent and reliable operation, delivery of, and access to the library’s electronic resources.

2.1. Activates, troubleshoots, and maintains access to the library’s electronic resources including databases and aggregate electronic resources.

2.2. Gathers and reports statistics and data from library systems to inform decision-making related to library services.

2.3. Develops and maintains content for the library website.

 

3. Provides reference services.

3.1. Provides in-depth reference services in support of the College of Health and Human Services and the College of Medicine to faculty, staff, students, residents, and preceptors.

3.2. Responds to reference queries submitted via email, phone, or chat in a timely manner, with in-person reference services expected to resume in July 2021.

 

4. Provides library research instruction.

4.1. Provides library research instruction to new students, faculty, staff, residents, and preceptors in the College of Health and Human Services and the College of Medicine.

 

5. Catalogs and classifies monographs, serials, and electronic resource materials.

 

6. Serves on faculty and university-wide committees.

 

7. Participates in faculty functions where faculty attendance is expected, such as White Coat Ceremony, Commencement, and new student orientation.

 

8. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program

Required Experience

  • Minimum of three years of medical library experience.

Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with digital resources, link resolvers and authentication methods.
  • Experience with an integrated library system.
  • Experience with web design and web technologies.
  • Library instruction experience (preferred).
  • Reference experience (preferred).
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Work experience and/or educational background related to medicine and/or the health sciences (preferred).
  • Ability to be a flexible and productive team member.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. APIs, XHTML, XML, SQL).
