Overview

The Security Lieutenant reports to the Security Chief and is responsible for overseeing the Security Sergeants, Officers and operations at Touro University Nevada.  The Lieutenant may be assigned to different shifts according to the needs of the department.  The Lieutenant is responsible for providing a safe a secure campus that enhances a quality learning environment for employees, students, and guests, and provides physical security for campus property and equipment through adherence to department procedures and policies.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises, assigns, and evaluates the activities of the security sergeants and officers on assigned shift and is responsible for:
    1. Evaluating, counseling and mentoring shift personnel on job performance
      1. Oversee training for new employees
      2. Conduct performance evaluations and mentor security officers as needed
      3. Monitor the training progress of new security employees
    2. Recommendations for progressive disciplinary action
    3. Assists with interviewing
    4. Planning daily assignments and conducting daily briefing for security operations
    5. Assess shift personnel and equipment needs
  2. Monitor shift operations to ensure that the campus is a safe and secure environment for all
    1. Delegate specific tasks to security sergeants and officers and inform the Security Chief regarding potential problems/issues and recommend possible solutions
    2. Supervise access control
    3. Supervise the patrolling, inspecting, and securing of premises
    4. Supervise the response and provide emergency management for incidents on campus
    5. Coordination with law enforcement officers and/or fire department officials, or other emergency responders such as EMT’s and provide emergency assistance as needed
    6. Review Security Officer Daily Logs and reports any issues to the Security Chief
    7. Operate the security camera system with a high degree of knowledge and proficiency
    8. Supervises the visitor management system
    9. Supervises parking enforcement of all University operated parking lots, both on and off campus
      1. Regulating and directing traffic to include parking lot operations
  3. Assign security escorts as requested
  4. Preparing written reports to include, but not limited to, incident reports, assists with preparing annual Clery Report, and campus crime logs
    1. Responding to, compiling, and reporting all information regarding all incidents that occur on campus
  5. Report building utility/service issues, as observed, to the Facilities Department
  6. Monitor alarm/panels for emergencies
  7. Responsible for immediately reporting any issues regarding University vehicles operated by the Security Department or other University personnel to the Director of Facilities.
  8. Responsible to ensure vehicle log sheets are properly completed
  9. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the position is preferred

 

Experience:

  • 4 years of security, US Military, or law enforcement experience
  • 2 years previous supervisor experience in security, US Military, or law enforcement

  • Effective customer service skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Possession of a valid Nevada driver’s license required
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must have sufficient hearing to respond to normal verbal speech, alarms, and radio and telephone communications
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity to read and understand faculty/staff listings, posted orders, maps, computer screens, check identification, and to distinguish the faces of faculty, staff, contractors, vendors, guests and visitors
  • Must be able to stand, walk and/or drive for up to 90% of the assigned shift
  • Must be able to operate handhld radios and other communication equipment
  • Must be willing to work all shifts
  • Must have the ability to lift objects of the 50 lbs
  • Must have strong command of the English language and be able to communicate clearly and effectively
