Instructional Designer

The online Instructional Designer will be responsible for designing, developing and supporting the university’s vision for online learning. This individual will work closely with the Director of the School of Nursing, the Nursing Program directors, nursing faculty, and other TUN faculty as directed to assist with developing online and technology-based instructional environments and resources. Online course resources shall include, but are not limited to: course design, syllabi, asynchronous and synchronous collaboration tools, online quizzes, gradebooks, assessment, and evaluation. The Instructional Designer will also provide Learning Management System (currently Canvas) and related educational technology workshops and hands-on training to faculty and administrative staff as necessary.

1. Apply research-based learning theory and proven instructional design principles to create engaging course designs within established department and professional processes
2. Identify appropriate instructional strategies and define learning objectives appropriate to undergraduate and graduate level curriculum
3. Design, author, and edit complex eLearning, virtual, blended and classroom curriculum, programs and learning aids
4. Design/develop/implement eLearning, social learning, and mobile learning environment
5. Act as eLearning expert when determining, designing, and developing curriculum through research, team member input, and advanced functional/technical knowledge
6. Innovate and implement leading-edge methodologies using industry benchmarks
7. Provide advanced application of multimedia design and development, including graphic design, audio/video, and gaming/simulation
8. Write and communicate professional training materials in the English language
9. Remain current in industry trends and related technology
10. Assure that the scholarly expectations set forth by Touro University are met and exceeded by all facets of departmental assignments
11. Provide thorough and detailed quality assurance of all course material
12. Provide outstanding collaboration and communication in visual, oral, and written form
13. Maintain accurate archives of course documentation and departmental tracking documents and provide timely updates/reports for institutional assessment
14. Maintain and enforce department policy
15. Work closely with Directors of Instructional Design to develop online course designs and templates for various course models
16. Support instructors who need problem-solving and solutions in LMS courses
17. Provide administrative support in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the University LMS and educational technologies.
18. Develop instructional materials for faculty and administrative staff training related to the University LMS and other appropriate learning technologies.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design or related field (desired)

Experience:

• Minimum of two years’ experience

Skills & Abilities:

• Familiarity with ethical and legal guidelines that govern online education
• Familiar with professional competencies for instructional design
• Ability to communicate effectively in visual, oral, and written venues
• Proficient in multimedia design and development
