Overview

Under the direction of the simulation director/manager/faculty coordinator, the Simulation Assistant will have the responsibility of assisting the simulation team in executing varying simulation labs and activities. The Simulation Assistant will assist in the setup, operation, maintaining, troubleshooting, and in some cases do basic repairs of simulation equipment. The Simulation Assistant is familiar with the various modalities of simulation education and has a working knowledge of simulation educational principles; thus is able to assist in the setup, delivery, and take down of simulation education sessions. They will also assist in staff on-boarding and other activities as required.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains a beginner level of current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment and operation manuals.
  2. Assists in overseeing the day to day simulation activities.
  3. Assists in preparing simulation activity materials, including but not limited to dispersing the material.
  4. Make copies of materials as needed and as requested.
  5. Sets up and takes down simulation laboratory equipment.
  6. Collaborates with supervisor to organize, maintain, and restock skills lab and simulation laboratory supplies.
  7. Provides technical assistance and support to faculty, instructors, and staff in the use of simulation equipment.
  8. Provides recommendations on equipment, supplies, and materials.
  9. Maintains simulation activities and learner confidentiality per university and FERPA guidelines.
  10. Provide tours of the simulation space for visitors, which often consist of potential or current donors, faculty, campus administrators, and external partners.
  11. Actively participates in and attends ongoing education and training offered by the simulation center to maintain proficiency in the simulation model and accreditation standards.
  12. Attends and actively contributes to simulation staff meetings.
  13. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

 

  • 2+ years of experience in a simulation lab with simulation software, standardized patients, and high-fidelity manikins, or equivalent education.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with the operation of personal computers.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • Familiarity with audio-visual equipment preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with other faculty, staff, students, and vendors in a positive, helpful, and cooperative working relationship.
  • Experience with providing technical support in networking, computer hardware or software.
  • Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
  • Knowledge of the operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.
  • Mechanical skills to use equipment in the simulation center.
  • Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through assignments to completion.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology.
  • Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.
  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain, and set up computer, audio-visual and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
