Overview

The Associate Dean of clinical education provides oversight and leadership for the management of all things related to the clinical education of the osteopathic medical students at TUNCOM. This position has the responsibility to ensure that all needs required to create new and maintain existing clinical rotation sites for the COM students are being met and to further ensure that all accreditation requirements associated with clinical education are followed properly and that all accreditation standards relating to clinical education are met.

Responsibilities

BROAD RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Associate Dean of clinical education provides oversight and leadership for the management of all things related to the clinical education of the osteopathic medical students at TUNCOM. This position has the responsibility to ensure that all needs required to create new and maintain existing clinical rotation sites for the COM students are being met and to further ensure that all accreditation requirements associated with clinical education are followed properly and that all accreditation standards relating to clinical education are met.

 

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide inspiring and visionary leadership, in alignment with the COM’s Mission, to the academic unit of Clinical Education and all clinical rotation sites.
  • Responsible in the development of new clinical rotation sites and maintain current ones.
  • Build relationships across regions to increase TUNCOM’s footprint and impact.
  • Perform site visits to all rotation sites annually as part of assigned teams.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with affiliated hospitals and clinic systems providing education for students.
  • Oversee the Assistant Dean(s) for clinical education, and all staff.
  • Build alliances with other COMs in the Touro System and other systems to facilitate the delivery of best practices in the clinical education of TUNCOM’s osteopathic medical students.
  • Engage at national level with professional organizations relevant to medical education.
  • Work directly with the Dean of the COM in developing innovative clinical education approaches including simulation, AI and other forward-thinking measures.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor policies and procedures that ensure the effectiveness of the academic unit of Clinical Education.
  • Identify and coordinate the clinical rotation sites.
  • Inspect and assess clinical rotations sites for best practices implementation and improvement where necessary.
  • Oversee top level professional and educational program delivery at clinical sites with faculty support at each site.
  • Conceive a meaningful academic structure and develop and maintain a strong academic team.
  • Initiate and oversee the development of new clinical rotation sites.
  • Assure up-to-date maintenance of all affiliation agreements for clinical rotations.
  • Make sure that all clinical education sites conform to policy and accreditation guidelines.
  • Oversee and plan for budgets for clinical rotation sites.
  • Oversee activities related to external stakeholders such as the NOMA, CCMS, and others.
  • Be actively involved in supporting clinical or bench-to-clinical research at the COM or in collaboration with outside stakeholders within the guides of the Mission of the COM.

 

Qualifications

Education 

  • D.O, M.D., or other clinical terminal degree as deemed relevant
  • Must hold an active license in the State of Nevada

Experience 

  • Five to ten years in academic, clinical leadership position(s) with demonstrated success.

Skills & Abilities

 

Specific Skills Requirements

  • Familiarity with student assessment and evaluation
  • Understanding of faculty development needs
  • Knowledge of clinical education trends

 

Equipment/Technology Knowledge

  • Simulation Medicine
  • POCUS/Point of Care Ultrasound
  • AI applications (basics)
  • Understanding of research processes including IRB, IUCUC, etc.

  • Experienced clinician with proven track record
