Overview

The Security Sergeant Operations Specialist reports to the Security Captain to support the Security Department at Touro University Nevada. The Security Sergeant – Operations Specialist will assist the Security Captain with supervising the Security Officers, overseeing security operations, and administrative support for the Security Department. The Security Sergeant – Operations Specialist will be a primary point of contact for internal and external customers. 

 

The Security Sergeant – Operations Specialist is responsible for providing physical security to employees, students, guests, campus property, and equipment through adherence to department procedures and policies. In addition to supervisory duties, the Security Sergeant Operations Specialist may perform Security Officer duties.

Responsibilities

1. Administers and performs the Envoy visitor management system. 

1.1. Welcomes and assists visitors in the main lobby. 

 

2. Administers the badge access control system for the campus. 

2.1. Runs and operates the badge management system. 

2.2. Issues and retracts badges. 

2.3. Performs audits of the security badge management system 

2.4. Ensures employees and students have appropriate (grant/restrict) badge access. 

2.5. Coordinates with the IT department for software related items 

 

3. Administers the parking permit management system. 

3.1. Maintains parking permit management system. 

3.2. Issues parking permits as appropriate 

3.3. Ensures appropriate reporting of parking permits and/or issues. 

 

4. Provides oversight of the security camera system 

4.1. Ensure cameras are operational and tested daily.  

 

5. Reviews the Security Logs and Incident Reports every day for clarity and accuracy, forwards to appropriate supervisor. 

 

6. Supports the Security Department in emergency operations. 

6.1. Performs communication hub duties. 

6.2. Assists in the development, review and maintenance of the Business Continuity Plan and other emergency operations materials. 

 

7. Provides administrative oversite of the security of cell phones and radios. 

 

8. Performs general administrative duties for the Security Department 

8.1. Serves as backup for answering the main phone line. 

8.2. Orders and stocks security related supplies 

8.3. Orders and stocks uniforms and related equipment 

8.4 Administers the electronic key box. 

8.4.1 Control key access 

8.4.2 Issue key access permission 

8.4.3 Daily audits 

8.5. Receives, sorts, and distributes security related mail. 

8.6. Schedules, arranges, and/or sets up training for the Security Department 

8.7. Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written references and/or conveying information. 

 

9. Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties. 

 

10. Assists the Security Captain with supervising, assigns, and evaluates the activities of the security officers on assigned shift and responsible for: 

 

11. Monitor shift operations to ensure that the campus is a safe and secure environment. 

 

12. Delegate specific tasks to security officers and department personnel and inform the Security Captain regarding potential problems/issues and recommend practical solutions. 

 

13. Supervise access control. 

 

14. Supervise the patrolling, inspecting, and securing of premises. 

 

15. Assign security escorts as requested. 

 

16. Preparing written reports 

16.1. Responding, compiling, and reporting all information regarding theft, alarms, accidents, and other incidents that may occur. 

 

17. Report all observed building utility/service issues to the Facilities Department 

 

18. Monitor alarm/panels for emergencies that might arise within the facility. 

 

19. Responsible for immediately reporting any issues regarding University vehicles operated by the Security Department or other University personnel to the Director of Facilities 

 

20. Ensure vehicle log sheets are properly completed. 

 

21. Other duties assigned. 

Qualifications

Education:  

  • HS Diploma or GED; Associate degree preferred (or combination of equivalent education and work experience) 

Experience:  

  • Three years of security or law enforcement experience 
  • Two years of security operations/administration experience 
  • One year supervisor experience in security or law enforcement preferred. 

Skills & Abilities:  

  • Ability to provide leadership. 
  • Ability to team build 
  • Possession of a valid Nevada driver’s license and ability/clearance to drive company vehicles. 
  • Intermediate computer skills; Microsoft Office Programs 
  • Ability to provide excellent leadership and team building mindset.

  • Good verbal and written communications 
  • Ability to problem-solve and multi-task in a busy environment. 
  • Must have sufficient hearing to respond to normal verbal speech, alarms, and radio and telephone communications. 
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity to read and understand faculty/staff listings, posted orders, maps, computer screens, check identification, and to distinguish the faces of faculty/staff, contractors, vendors, guests, and visitors. 
  • Must have a command of the English language that is easily understood. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to operate handheld radios and communication equipment. 
  • Ability to work all shifts. 
  • Must be able to respond quickly to incidents and emergencies (“Rapid Response”). Rapid Response may include, but is not limited to, running, squatting, crouching, kneeling, climbing, standing for extended periods of time, and operating Touro vehicles.  
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. 
  • This position requires the individual to work in a variety of settings including office and campus academic division/department offices with extended periods of sitting working at a PC and occasionally required to stand, walk, bend and reach 
  • Must be CPR certified.
