Overview

The Facilities Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Touro University Nevada campus facilities, related equipment, and operational needs as assigned by the Facilities Manager, encompassing both the interior and exterior of the buildings.  In addition, the Facilities Technician will assist with maintaining campus aesthetics to meet Touro quality standards.

Responsibilities

1. Review work orders as assigned and perform related repairs and maintenance.

 

2. Maintains and repairs buildings and assets.

2.1. Perform general maintenance throughout the university to include general building maintenance, equipment preventative maintenance, minor repairs and clean-up.

2.2. Performs “handyman” related tasks to include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, finishing and flooring. Coordinates with vendors to perform more technical work.

2.3. Performs preventative maintenance on specialty equipment and pumps. Ensures periodic confidence testing is performed and units are fully functional. Ensures detailed logs are maintained for work performed.

2.4. Schedules, oversees, and inspects work performed by vendors and contractors.

2.5. Operates a variety of hand, power tools, and test equipment.

2.5.1. Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of tools, equipment and supplies.

2.6. Operate pallet jacks, forklifts and scissor lifts.

2.7. Performs irrigation repairs.

2.8. Perform daily building inspections.

2.8.1. Ensure building is safe, fully operational, clean, and meets exceptional appearance standards.

2.8.2. Remedy any discrepancies through a work order and/or vendor.

2.8.3. Ensure all safety equipment is present and functional.

 

3. Performs furniture moves and set-ups for offices and classrooms.

3.1. Assembles furniture and other office equipment.

 

4. Complete all assigned work orders within the specified time as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

 

5. Monitor and promote workplace safety and receive OSHA-sponsored training. Assures adherence to safety rules, regulations, procedures, and precautions while involved in work tasks.

 

6. Prepare purchase requests for supplies and equipment.

 

7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma required.
  • HVAC certification is desirable but not required. 

Experience:

  • 2 years facility repair and maintenance experience in a commercial setting required. 

Skills & Abilities

  • Possession of a valid Nevada driver’s license.
  • Ability and clearance to drive company vehicles and golf carts.
  • Ability to work varied shifts when required.
  • Ability to oversee vendors and contractors.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills with a desire to exceed customer’s expectations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with all levels of personnel.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely prepare and operate pressure cleaning machines, compressors and related tools.
  • Ability to climb building ladders with a combined height of 35 ft., folding ladders to 10 ft., and feel comfortable with heights, including the roof hatches.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to work in severe weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoops, crouches, pushes, pulls, and reaches above shoulders in the performance of duties.
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools and equipment used in building and mechanical maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of codes and regulations applicable to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word. Working knowledge of other Office Programs.
