Overview

The Facilities Manager reports to the Director of Facilities, Security, and Environmental Health and Safety and manages the Facilities Technicians.  The Manager assists the Director to ensure TUN facilities are fully operational and support the University’s mission.  The Manager will assist the Director with all facility related work activities on the campus including the central plant operations and maintenance, HVAC units, building equipment infrastructure, custodial, grounds, and facilities use for events to ensure a safe and comfortable working and learning environment for the University community and visitors.  The Manager will ensure subordinate and contractor work is performed correctly, timely, and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  1. Manage day-to-day operations and delivery of facility related services to the TUN campus.

1.1    Assist the Director with hiring, managing, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating subordinate staff.

1.2   Manage the Facilities Technicians.

  • Ensure the TUN campus is fully operational and meets high quality and aesthetic standards.

1.3    Foster a professional and safe working environment.

  • Ensure Technicians work safely and conform to environmental, health and safety regulations from both Federal and local government entities.
  • Must have a “Safety First” mindset.

1.4    Manage the inspection, service, repair, and preventative maintenance of:

  • Mechanical systems - HVAC units and Central Plant equipment to include filter replacement.
  • Plumbing equipment - Boilers/water heaters, water service lines, sewer lines, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Fire and life safety systems.
  • Electrical equipment.
  • Furniture and Fixtures - ensure furniture and fixtures meets campus needs.
  • Interior and exterior finishes - drywall, finishes, paint, flooring, and millwork/casework.
  • Ensure protocols/procedures and followed for disinfecting the campus and related facilities spaces and equipment.
  • Landscaping and ground maintenance to ensure campus landscaping is clean, healthy, and presents a professional “first impression.”
  • Parking facilities to ensure cleanliness, upkeep of asphalt, and marking legibility
  • Roof integrity and minor repairs.

1.5    Management of all Facility related contracts to include but not limited to the custodial, fire system, landscape, generator, and elevator.

1.6    Manage the custodial operations to ensure campus is clean and meets high standards.

  1. Assist the Director with managing projects and renovations.
  2. Assist the Director in the programming, design, and construction of capital projects for the campus.
  3. Assist the Director with budgeting and appropriate resource allocations. 
  1. Oversee the Environmental Health and Safety for the campus.

Qualifications

Education:    

  • High school diploma or G.E.D required.
  • Technical schooling in related field preferred.
  • Most have a valid Nevada Driver’s License, class “C”.

Experience:  

  • At least four years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management in an education or commercial setting.
  • Experience with managing the operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, finishes, flooring, roofing systems, and building structures.
  • Experience with managing landscaping and grounds maintenance operations.
  • Advance experience with hand and power tools.

  • Ability to provide conflict resolution to resolve issues.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals, internally and externally with principally contractors, suppliers, peers, subordinates, and senior management.
  • Ability to implement training.
  • Mid-level computer skills that include the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Visio).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service and building positive relationships.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work in a busy environment.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 35’.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions to include extreme heat.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment to include powered scissor lifts and jacks.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Ability to read plans/blueprints.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles, ¾ ton trucks, and tow 35’ trailers.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of basic OSHA and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge of commercial building infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of project management processes.
